Our Mission
Since 1980, Maine Youth Leadership (MYL) has worked with Maine youth to seek out, recognize and develop their leadership skills. Our goal is to motivate Maine’s future leaders and create a network of civic-minded students who will better their communities through volunteering. Our programs encourage and assist students at critical times in their quest for self- identification and development and we provide give-and-take discussions with thought leaders and role models from across Maine society.

What We Do
- Each spring, we invite a tenth grade "ambassador" from every public and private high school to participate in a 4-day leadership seminar held at the University of Southern Maine campus in Gorham.- MYL also holds statewide One-Day seminars that are 100% student-led which mentor and teach leadership skills to their peers and promote community service. - All MYL events are provided at no cost to the student, parent or school, ever.- MYL is an all-volunteer organization (non-profit 501-c) with no paid staff.- 98% of our spending goes directly to programs that benefit students. The remaining 2% goes to administrative costs.- All MYL programs are paid for through the generous support from individuals and businesses across Maine.

MYL in the News
June 2, 2007: MYL students attending the 2007 Leadership Seminar completed a hands on volunteer project on Saturday June 2nd. Here's a video clip of students planting trees for Portland Trails that aired on the 6pm news on Channel 8, WMTW in Portland.

January 6, 2007: MYL alumni serve up pancakes at the Portland and Bangor Red Cross Blood centers feeding the donors who came to give blood that day. The alums also made calls to potential donors drumming up support for the blood drive during national blood donor month, when there is a shortage of both volunteers and donors. This video is a report by WCSH-TV Channel 6 in Portland which aired on the six and 11 pm news.
